The ASRC is pleased to announce the support of our student body by a generous private donation which allow us to run the ASRC’s Graduate Student Interdisciplinary Seed Grant Program. This program will provide awards of up to $10,000 each to support innovative, student-led research projects that bridge scientific disciplines, ASRC initiatives, including core facilities.
The purpose of this program is to stimulate new interdisciplinary research partnerships among researchers working on different floors. Successful projects will integrate expertise and resources from two or more ASRC initiatives (including respective core facilities).
This program seeks to catalyze new collaborations that may lead to future external funding, publications, presentations, intellectual property, and/or sustained cross initiative research activities.
Objectives
Projects should address one or more of the following goals:
- Foster interdisciplinary scientific discovery.
- Promote collaboration among ASRC initiatives.
- Increase graduate students’ novel engagement with ASRC core facilities.
- Generate preliminary data for external grant and research fellowship proposals.
- Develop novel methodologies or technologies.
- Create opportunities for cross-disciplinary student training.
- Strengthen the ASRC’s collaborative research community.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be currently enrolled in a CUNY doctoral degree program (GC or CCNY).
- Conduct research under the mentorship of an ASRC faculty member.
- Serve as the project lead.
- Obtain endorsement from all participating faculty and fellow students, if applicable.
- If awarded, share their application and project outputs and images with fundraising staff at the ASRC/GC CUNY.
Requirements
Provide a concise description of the project (250 words maximum), its interdisciplinary components, and expected outcomes.
Describe the project’s scientific objectives, significance and innovation, the roles of participating collaborators, and how and with whom the project integrates multiple ASRC floors
Describe anticipated deliverables such as: preliminary data, publications, conference presentations, new methods or technologies, and external funding or fellowship application proposals
Provide a budget table with a brief explanation of requested expenses up to $10K.
Describe how participating mentors and/or core facility personnel will support the project and student training.
Applicants must provide letters of support (each up to 2 pages) from a faculty mentor and collaborating faculty mentor(s).
Provide an NIH or NSF-style CV of the primary applicant.
Please note: All materials, except for the letter’s of support, should be compiled by the student applicant into a single PDF file and sent to Corynne Alexis at corynne.alexis13@gc.cuny.edu by midnight, Oct. 31, 2026. The letters of support should also be sent to Corynne by the same deadline but directly from the faculty.
