Darjan Podbevsek, Ph.D.

  • Postdoctoral Research Associate, Chen Lab, Nanoscience Initiative
  • Postdoctoral Research Associate, Tu Lab, City College of New York

Darjan obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Power and process engineering at the University of Ljubljana. He spent a year at the Nanoscale engineering program (joint program between INSA, UCBL, and UCL) in Lyon. His Master’s thesis was conducted at the Institut of Light and Matter (ILM) in Lyon, under the super vision of dr. Gilles Ledoux and prof. Matevz Dular, where he was working on characterization of temperature and pressure sensitive luminescent materials. Afterwards, he continued his studies as a PhD student at the ILM and University Claude Bernard Lyon, where he defended his PhD in Physics on the topic of probing the thermodynamic parameters and radical production in hydrodynamic flows via luminescent spectroscopy. In 2019 he joined prof. Dular’s team at the University of Ljubljana, as a post-doctoral fellow, working on interactions between cavitation bubbles and different contaminants in waste-waters. Darjan joined prof. Chen’s and prof. Tu’s group in 2021 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate, to work on water responsive composite materials and the physics behind their actuation.
