The CUNY Summer Undergraduate Research Program (CSURP) began its 2016 ten-week program at the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC) on Monday, June 6, with a welcome event and informational session.
The program—in its second year—offers hands-on research experience and is open to students interested in five key research areas: nanoscience, photonics, structural biology, neuroscience, and environmental sciences. Students accepted into the 2016 CSURP program are matched with a faculty mentor working in one of these disciplines at the either the CUNY ASRC or at one of the CUNY colleges.
Students work closely with their mentors and members of their research teams to develop a project that can be conducted over the course of the 10-week program.
Additionally, all program participants meet for weekly CSURP programming which includes research seminars, workshops on graduate school preparation, communication skills, research integrity and career development. Past programs have also included a behind-the-scenes trip to the American Museum of Natural History. The program culminates in a final poster session where students present their work to peers, faculty and administrators.
