Evelyn Román Lazén
Evelyn Román Lazén is a STEM educator and curriculum developer with extensive experience designing transformative programs across formal and informal learning settings. Her work centers inquiry, critical thinking, and dialogue, cultivating curiosity and a love of learning through research-driven, experiential approaches. She has created successful STEM models at both local and national levels that engage youth in hands-on and Socratic learning, while equipping educators with effective and innovative pedagogies. Through collaborations with museums, universities, community-based organizations, and other partners, Evelyn has developed rigorous and accessible programs that connect community stakeholders, youth, and educators with emerging technologies to advance data-driven, community-centered research. Through the Community Sensor Lab and IlluminationSpace Hub at the Advanced Science Research Center, she designs innovative curricula that open accessible pathways for youth, educators, and residents to explore the uses and impacts of ubiquitous sensors, strengthen data literacy, and apply science to understand and improve their own communities. Her work advances new models of teaching and learning at the intersection of technology, society, and applied science innovation.
