Rinat Abzalimov, Ph.D.

  • Director, Mass Spectrometry Facility
  • Co-Director, MALDI-TOF MS Imaging Facility
  • Research Associate Professor, Structural Biology Initiative

Rinat Abzalimov, Ph.D. joins the ASRC from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he served as the Assistant Director of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department’s Mass Spectrometry Center. He earned his Ph.D. at the Ufa Research Center of RAS in Russia, while completing his undergraduate studies at Bashkir State University, also in Russia.

About the Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry Facility

The Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry Facility provides analytical services and expertise to CUNY researchers and their industrial partners, and academic research labs outside the University.

Research Interests

Abzalimov’s active research interests are in the area of development of mass spectrometry-based technologies and their applications to problems related to protein’s higher order structure and conformational dynamics, structural disorders, protein interactions with relevant biological partners, stability of biopharmaceuticals. Other research interests include applications of newly emerging field asymmetric and travelling wave ion mobility, and traditional ion mobility spectrometry techniques for fast and comprehensive analysis of highly heterogeneous mixtures of lipids, carbohydrates and peptides.
