Sílvia Anglès, Ph.D.
Sílvia Anglès, Ph.D. is a biological oceanographer with interest in phytoplankton ecology working with Dr. Dianne Greenfield. She graduated in Biology from the University of Barcelona (UB) and completed her Ph.D. at the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC) in Barcelona, where her research focused mainly on Harmful Algal Blooms and water quality of coastal environments. She carried out postdoctoral research at Texas A&M University, IMEDEA (UIB-CSIC, Mallorca) and SYKE Marine Research Laboratory (Helsinki). Dr. Anglès’ research focuses on the diversity, dynamics and ecology of microbial communities and the interactions with physical and biogeochemical processes. Her lines of research include the application of cutting-edge molecular techniques and ocean sensing technologies. At the ASRC, she is currently working on a project that investigates how changes in human activity due to the COVID-19 lock-down affect key biogeochemical parameters and the associated microbial assemblages in an urban estuary.
